 Many
of the time honored bag craft features characteristic of J.W. Hulme quality
perform essential functions not obvious to the untrained eye. For example,
a sportsman's duffle should be rain and dust proof. Our flaps that
completely cover the main entry zippers and our combination of heavy treated
canvas and canvas seam welting provide this protection. Unlike synthetics,
our canvas swells when moist to seal seams and needle holes. Nylon
welting, used by other brands, transfers water into a bag like a wick. New
synthetics are waterproof by virtue of back-coating which leaks through the
needle holes unless, like our extra large duffle, there is canvas behind the
needled holes.
